Low battery / charge

When the battery of the AZUR hearing aids is low, the hearing aids emit a warning beep every 5 minutes and may no longer function properly (sound distortion, low amplification). If your hearing aids are not loaded as soon as possible, they stop working (no more amplification). When the AZUR hearing aids and the rechargeable storage box have a very low battery, the indicator lights do not light up anymore. Recharge your hearing aids and their box without delay to avoid any malfunction of your hearing instruments.

STEP 2 : Turning the AZUR hearing devices ON and OFF

AZUR hearing aids automatically turn OFF when stored in their rechargeable box and automatically turn ON  when unboxed.

Turning OFF the AZUR hearing aids :

To turn OFF the AZUR hearing aids, press and hold the push button (C) for more than 5 seconds, until a short music informs you that the hearing aids are OFF.

Turning on the AZUR hearing aids :

To turn ON the AZUR hearing aids, press and hold the push button (C) for more than 5 seconds, until 3 beeps followed by a short music informs you that the hearing aids are turned ON.

STEP 3 : Attaching / Removing the silicone eartip from AZUR mini-BTE hearing aids

The silicone eartip (E) has several roles :

  • To maintain the sound outlet (located under the eartip) in the ear canal ;
  • To ensure the occlusion of the ear canal in order to avoid any whistling (Larsen) during the use ;
  • To allow comfort during use, thanks to the flexibility of silicone.

For these reasons, it is fundamental to take the time to choose the size of the eartip that fits your ear canal. If the size is not the right one :

  • The sound outlet (located under the eartip) will not be maintained in the ear canal, not allowing a good restitution of the sounds in the ear ;
  • The occlusion of the ear canal will not be ensured, providing a whistling sound (Larsen) during the use of the hearing aid.

The silicone eartip initally comes in 3 sizes : S, M and L. By default, the M size is attached to the hearing aid, as it fits 80% of users. Try it out. If it doesn't fit, choose the smaller (S) or the larger (L) eartip, depending on how you feel.

Remove the eartip (E) from the sound tube (A) :

To remove the silicone eartip (E) from the sound tube, hold the tube (A) between your fingers and gently pinch the eartip between the thumb and index finger of your other hand. Pull on the eartip to release it from the tube.

Attach the eartip (E) to the sound tube (A) :

To attach the silicone eartip (E) to the sound tube, hold the tube (A) between your fingers, take the tip between the thumb and index finger of the other hand, position the eartip on the tube and push it until it clicks into place on the tube (A). When the eartip is safely attached to the tube, it cannot fall off.

STEP 4 : Inserting / Removing the AZUR mini-BTE hearing aids

The AZUR hearing aid is a mini-BTE. Its bio-medical plastic case (D) is positioned behind the auricle ; the sound tube (A) passes over the auricle and the silicone eartip (E) slides into the ear canal.

Placing the AZUR hearing aid on the right ear :

If you wear glasses : remove them during this step.

  • Take the bio-medical part (D) between the thumb and index finger of your right hand ;
  • Take the silicone eartip (E) between the thumb and index finger of the left hand ;
  • Gently push the silicone eartip (E) into the ear canal and hold it there with the thumb and index finger ;
  • Pass the sound tube (A) over the right ear ;
  • Finish by placing the biomedical part (D) behind the right ear ;
  • Adjust the position of AZUR behind your ear.

Placing the AZUR hearing aid on the left ear :

If you wear glasses: remove them during this step.

  • Take the bio-medical part (D) between the thumb and index finger of the left hand ;
  • Take the silicone eartip (E) between the thumb and index finger of the right hand ;
  • Gently push the silicone eartip (E) into the ear canal and hold it there with the thumb and index finger ;
  • Pass the sound tube (A) over the left ear ;
  • Finish by placing the biomedical part (D) behind the left ear ;
  • Adjust the position of AZUR behind your ear.

Remove the AZUR hearing aid :

If you wear glasses : remove them during this step.

  • Carefully remove the bio-medical part (D) from the ear by lifting it upwards, following the direction of the sound tube (A) ;
  • Carefully remove the silicone eartip (E) from the ear canal ;
  • Store the AZUR hearing aid in its rechargeable box.

STEP 5 : Changing the volume on AZUR hearing aids

The AZUR hearing aids smartly amplify sounds from 12dB to 36dB. The volume works the same way on the 3 different amplification programs of the hearing aids.

Default setting of the AZUR hearing aid :

When AZUR is first turned ON, it is set to program 1 with the average amplification volume (24dB). This setting is suitable for the majority of users with mild to moderate age-related hearing loss (presbycusis). The user can change the volume, according to his / her feeling, thanks to the dedicated push button (C).

Preference memory :

Once the user has chosen a volume level that suits him/her and has used it for more than 20 minutes continuously, AZUR will save this preference and restore it by default each time the hearing aid is used, or until the next time the volume level is changed and used for more than 20 minutes continuously.

Increasing the volume on the AZUR hearing instrument :

Using the dedicated part of the push button (C+), the user can increase the volume up to 4 times from the default volume (24dB). Each press is signaled by a double beep and adds 3dB to the previous volume level. The volume can therefore be increased by a total of 12dB, compared to the default volume (24dB). When the user reaches the maximum amplification (4th press on C+), the device indicates this with a single beep. The maximum amplification of AZUR is 36dB.

Decreasing the volume on the AZUR hearing aid
:

Thanks to the dedicated part of the push button (C-), the user can lower the volume up to 4 times from the default volume (24dB). Each press is signaled by a double beep and reduces the previous volume level by 3dB. The volume can thus be reduced by 12dB in total, compared to the default volume (24dB). When the user reaches the minimum amplification (4th press on C-), the device indicates this with a single beep. The minimum amplification of AZUR is 12dB.

STEP 6 : Changing the amplification program of the AZUR hearing instrument

The AZUR hearing aid has 3 different amplification programs :

  • Program 1 - Classic program, harmoniously amplifying high and low frequencies ; suitable for all types of sound environments ;
  • Program 2 - Specific high frequency amplification program ; suitable for noisy environments ;
  • Program 3 - Specific low frequency amplification program ; suitable for quiet environments.

Default setting of the AZUR hearing instrument :

When AZUR is first turned ON, it is set to program 1 and the average amplification volume (24dB). This setting is suitable for the majority of users with mild to moderate age-related hearing loss (presbycusis). The user can change the volume, according to his / her feeling, thanks to the dedicated push button (C).

Preference memory :

Once the user has chosen a program that suits him/her and has used it for more than 20 minutes continuously, the AZUR hearing aid will record this preference and restore it each time the hearing aid is used again or until the next time the program is changed and used for more than 20 minutes continuously.

Changing the amplification program :

When AZUR is first turned ON, it is set to program 1.

  • From program 1 to 2 : Press and hold the push button (C) for more than 3 seconds, until 2 beeps indicate that the hearing aid is now on program 2 ;
  • From program 2 to 3 : Press and hold push button (C) for more than 3 seconds, until 3 beeps indicate that the hearing aid is now on program 3  ;
  • From program 3 to 1 : Press and hold push button (C) for more than 3 seconds, until 1 beep announces that the hearing aid is now on program 1 (classic program).

For each amplification program, the user has access to the volume as explained previously.

Care instructions

Keep your ear canals clean

Repeated use of a hearing aid can lead to an accumulation of earwax in the ear canal. This build-up of earwax can lead to a blockage of the ear canal and further decrease your hearing capacities or even cause whistling (feedback) when using your hearing aid. Keep your your ear canals clean. If an obstructive earwax plug is blocking it, consult an ENT doctor to remove it.

Care instructions for the AZUR hearing aid

During use, earwax and dust can deposit on the various components of your hearing aid and affect its proper functioning. In order to avoid this, we recommend that you pay attention to the maintenance of your hearing aid and that you observe the following instructions.

STEP 1 : Cleaning the bio-medical plastic shell (D)

Placed on the auricle, the shell and its components (notably the microphones) are subject to humidity, dust and micro-dirt from the ambient air. Clean the shell with a soft, dry cloth after each use of your hearing aid.

STEP 2 : Cleaning the microphones (B)

The microphone is a fundamental element of the functioning of a hearing aid. Its role is to capture sounds that are then amplified and played back to the user. AZUR has 2 microphones (B) located on the shell (D). Clean the microphones regularly by scrubbing them with the provided brush, so that no deposits prevent them from working properly.

STEP 3 : Cleaning the silicone eartip

The silicone eartip is located at the end of the tube (A) and covers the sound outlet. Because it is positioned in the ear canal, it is common for earwax to be deposited on it, affecting the sound reproduction quality of the hearing aid. To avoid this situation, the silicone eartip must be cleaned regularly. To do this, please :

  • Remove the silicone eartip from the tube (A),
  • Scrub the eartip with the dedicated brush,
  • If necessary, rinse the eartip under warm water. In this case, make sure that it is completely dry before putting it back on the tube.

For reasons of hygiene, we recommend changing the tip once or twice a month.

STEP 4 : Cleaning the tube (A) and the sound outlet (E)

The sounds picked up by the microphones (B) are guided to the ear canal through the tube (A) and delivered to the auditory system through the sound outlet (E) which is located under the silicone eartip. To ensure that your hearing aid works optimally, make sure that the tube and the sound outlet are kept perfectly clean, unobstructed by any deposits that would slow down the reproduction of sound. To do this, please :

  • Remove the silicone eartip from the tube (A) and clean it (see step 3),
  • Remove the tube (A) from the shell (D),
  • Slide the black wire into the tube, until it comes out of both sides of the tube,
  • Then remove the wire, replace the tube and the eartip.

Remove the tube• At the point where the tube (A) is attached to the shell (D), a red line is marked on the tube.
• This line is positioned opposite a red dot located on the hearing aid, in the center of the shell (D).
• Hold the tube attachment point between your thumb and index finger and turn it 90° to the second red point on the outside of the unit.
• The tube is disengaged : pull gently on the tube to remove it from the shell.
Put
the tube

• Insert the fixing point of the tube in its space on the shell, positioning the red line on the side, facing the external point.
• Then turn the attachment point 90° to position the red line over the first red point, located in the center of the shell (D).

STEP 5 : Store the
AZUR hearing aids in their rechargeable storage box

When you are not using your hearing aids, store them in their box, away from dust and shocks. Make sure your box is charged. Do not leave your hearing aids on charge for more than 5 hours, as this may damage the battery.

Precautions for use and safety

Waterproof

The AZUR hearing aid is not waterproof. Remove it before :

  • Taking a shower or going swimming,
  • Applying aftershave, hairspray, oils, perfume, mosquito repellent, lotions, etc.

If the AZUR hearing aid is exposed to such products, let it dry before turning it ON. Never attempt to dry AZUR with a hair dryer or a microwave oven.

Storage

When you are not using your AZUR hearing aids, store them in their rechargeable storage box.

Extremes temperature

Do not expose your hearing aid to extreme or prolonged temperatures, do not leave it under the sun, in your car, near a radiator, etc.

Anti-vibration

Do not bang your hearing aids against each other, do not bang them against a hard surface, it could damage them.

More

  • Using a hearing aid does not restore normal hearing or does not prevent hearing loss. Check our F.A.Q concerning this point.
  • Do not allow others to wear your hearing aids.
  • Keep your hearing aid and accessories out of the reach of people who might swallow them. Do not put the hearing aid in your mouth. If swallowed, seek medical attention immediately.
