Maintenance and repairs

Malfunctions that can be observed on the ORISON (digital CIC) and AZUR (rechargeable mini-BTE) hearing aids are most often due to a lack of care or handling of the devices. To avoid these inconveniences, we recommend that you carefully read the user's manual and the care instructions delivered with your hearing aid (also available here for ORISON and AZUR) before using it. In case of malfunctions, please refer to the solutions below. If the problem is not listed, or if it persists, contact our customer service department, which will provide you with an appropriate solution.
The whistling of the hearing aid can be the consequence of one of the 4 following situations :
1 - The size of the eartip is not adapted to your ear canal (ORISON / AZUR)
Too small or too large, the silicone eartip does not ensure the occlusion of the ear canal, i.e. the strict separation between the sound inlet (the microphone, which picks up the sounds from the auricle and which is located on the front of the hearing aid for ORISON and on the external shell for AZUR) and the sound outlet (i.e. the vent hole, which restores the sounds in the ear canal and which is located under the silicone eartip). In this situation, the sound is picked up by the microphone which transmits it, again, to the processor in an endless loop, until it reaches the limits of the hearing aid. This is called feedback (Larsen).
- Solution : Change the size of the eartip and make sure it is perfectly occlusive.
2 - The hearing aid is uncorrectly positioned in your ear canal (ORISON)
This wrong position leads to a similar situation to the previous one : the eartip does not ensure the strict separation between the input and output of sounds, which creates a feedback effect. Incorrect position of the hearing aid in the ear can be due to an incorrect choice in the size of the eartip or a poor handling on the hearing aid.
- Solution : Change the size of the eartip so that it fits properly in the ear canal. Take the time to learn how to handle your hearing aid, as you would do with contact lenses.
3 - An obstructive earwax plug prevents the hearing aid from working properly (ORISON / AZUR)
An obstructive earwax plug leads to a similar situation to the previous ones : the amplified sounds come out of the hearing aid, ricochet off the plug and are sent back to the microphone in an endless loop, until they reach the limits of the hearing aid.
- Solution : Consult an ENT doctor who will remove the earwax plug. This removal should also allow you to hear much better !
4 - Your hand, phone or other object is blocking the entrance to your ear (ORISON)
Your hand, your telephone or any other object, which would be placed at the entry of your ear canal, would cause a similar situation to the previous ones.
- Solution : Make sure to remove your hand, phone or any other object from your ear to avoid obstruction.
Some people complain of hearing a "resonance" with an CIC hearing aid, others do not. This type of feeling is quiet normal with a CIC hearing aid because, by its nature, this type of device is slipped into the ear, which is a resonance chamber (the principle of the seashell that you stick on your ear to hear the sea). For complainants, the adaptation can take a few days, rarely more. If the discomfort persists, we recommend that you switch to a BTE hearing aid type (AZUR) which, by its nature, bypasses the ear.
When the battery is low, your hearing aid (ORISON and AZUR) will alert you with regular beeps.
- Solution : Change (or charge) the battery.
Weak, distant or non-existent amplification can be the result of one of the 3 following situations :
1 - Your battery is low
If the battery is low, your hearing aid (ORISON / AZUR) will inform you by emitting regular beeps. If dust or earwax is blocking the sound outlet (vent hole), these regular beeps may not be audible either.
- Solution : Replace (or recharge) the low battery.
2 - Dust or earwax is blocking the vent hole
With use, a hearing aid is exposed to moisture and earwax, naturally present in the ear canal. Wax build-up may be deposited on the silicone eartip and the vent hole (sound outlet) and block it. That's why it's important to read the care instructions that comes with your hearing aid and make sure you pay attention to its maintenance.
- Solution for ORISON : Remove the silicone eartip and scrub it with the dedicated brush. If necessary, replace the silicone eartip with a new one. Scrub the vent hole with the brush and re-adjust the silicone eartip over the vent hole : the hearing aid should function normally again. If not, remove the wax guard that protects the vent hole and replace it with a new one.
- Soluton for AZUR : Remove the silicone eartip and scrub it with the dedicated brush. If necessary, replace the silicone eartip with a new one. Remove the sound tube from the hearing aid and clean it with the dedicated wire (black). Replace the sound tube on the hearing aid. Replace the eartip on the sound tube : the hearing aid should function normally again.
3 - The hearing aid is damp or wet
The AZUR and ORISON hearing aids are not waterproof. If they have been exposed to water or any other liquid, they may stop working.
- Solution for ORISON : Open the battery compartment, remove the battery, leave the battery compartment open. Remove the silicone eartip from the hearing aid. Remove the wax guard from the vent hole. Then let your hearing aid dry for 24 to 48 hours in a dry place away from sunlight and moisture. If your hearing aid still does not work after this time, contact our customer service department.
- Solution for AZUR : Remove the hearing aids from their rechargeable box. Remove the silicone eartip from the sound tube. Remove the sound tube from the hearing aid. Then let your hearing aid dry for 24 to 48 hours in a dry place away from sunlight and moisture. If your hearing aid still does not work after this time, contact our customer service department.
A 10A battery provides 5 to 6 days of daily use of your Orison hearing aid. If you find that the battery needs to be changed more than once a week, it means that your hearing aid is consuming too much power, which can be the result of one of the following 3 situations :
1 - Hearing aid is ON when not in use
There is no need to leave your hearing aid ON when it is not in use : this leads to unnecessary battery consumption.
- Solution : When you are not using your hearing aid, turn it OFF by opening the battery compartment and store it in its dedicated box, in order to limit the interaction between the battery (zinc air) and the ambient air, contributing to the discharge.
2 - Dust or earwax is blocking the vent hole
If dust, dirt or earwax are on the vent hole due to lack of care, the sound outlet is blocked and ORISON will have difficulty reproducing amplified sounds. This can lead to excessive energy consumption.
- Solution : Clean your hearing aid and make sure you take care of it regularly.
3 - Your hearing aid is poorly positioned in the ear
When improperly positioned, the ORISON hearing aid whistles and consumes a lot of energy, while your hearing comfort will be reduced by the feedback effect.
- Solution : Change the size of the eartip so that it fits properly in the ear canal. Take the time to learn how to handle your hearing aid, as you would do with contact lenses.
After a full charge of 4 to 5 hours, the AZUR hearing aid has 15 to 20 hours of autonomy. If you notice that your hearing aid has less autonomy, it means that it consumes too much energy, which can be the result of one of the following 3 situations :
1 - The hearing aid is ON when not in use
AZUR automatically turns OFF when it is properly stored in its rechargeable box. This storage also allows it, within the limits of the box's charge, to recharge itself. If AZUR consumes too much energy and does not recharge when it is stored, it means that you do not store it correctly in its box and that it continues to function when it is not used.
- Solution : Make sure you store the right and left hearing instruments in their respective locations and position them properly in the box, so that they recharge and do not continue to function when stored.
2 - Dust or earwax is blocking the tube and/or vent hole
If dust, dirt or earwax is on the vent hole or in the sound tube, the sound output will be blocked due to lack of care : AZUR will struggle to function properly and reproduce amplified sounds. This situation can lead to excessive energy consumption.
- Solution : Clean your hearing aid and take care of it regularly.
3 - The silicone earmold is poorly positioned in the ear
If the silicone eartip is not positioned correctly, it won't seal the ear canal and AZUR will whistle occasionally or continuously : its energy consumption will be at its maximum while your hearing comfort will be reduced by the feedback effect.
- Solution : Change the size of the eartip so that it allows you to ensure the occlusion of the ear canal. Make sure the eartip is properly positioned in your ear. Take the time to learn how to use to your hearing aid.
